Are Vegetable Oils True Replacement for Butter???

Are vegetables oils “healthy” replacement for natural butter and animal fats?

No, absolutely not. Many of us perceive vegetable oils as “healthy” because these industrially extracted liquids are deceptively named after our healthy food source “vegetable.” Since vegetables are good for us, the vegetable oils must be too … Not so fast!

KETO butter vs margarinesAs the proponents of the diet-heart hypothesis misguided the world to avoiding consumption of animal fats, they had to replace them with something. So, they introduced the presumably “healthy” vegetables oils extracted form corn, soy, canola, peanut, grapeseed, sunflower, etc.

Soon followed the solid fats made out of these oils: margarines and shortenings. The trans fats, they are called.

And yet from the beginning of this promotion campaign, study after study has shown that vegetable oils are dangerous to human health.

Here are some issues we have with these industrial products in our diet:

  • Vegetables oils were practically non-existent in our diets until early 1900s –because they simply did not exist in the nature, period. With the industrial revolution came new advances in chemical processes, allowing food manufacturers to extract these highly profitable oils and margarine. Since mid 20th century, food industry has been vigorously promoting these highly profitable vegetable oils  as “healthy” replacement for natural butter and animal fats.

  • Vegetable oils  are too high in Omega-6s. Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are biologically active essential fatty acids. We can not produce them ourselves and need to eat them in a certain balance to function optimally. Excess Omega-6s in our cell membranes are prone to harmful chain reactions.

  • Vegetable oils contribute to inflammationEicosanoids, signaling molecules made from Omega-6 and Omega-3 fats, are crucial in regulating inflammation in our body. The more Omega-6s we eat, the more systemic inflammation we will have.

  • Vegetable oils cause structural changes in our body. Excessive consumption of vegetable oils leads to actual structural changes within our fat stores and our cell membranes. These conditions usually lead to cancer.

  • Vegetable oils are loaded with Trans Fats. Trans fats are unsaturated fats that are modified to be solid at room temperature. They are highly toxic and associated with multiple chronic diseases. Soybean and canola oils sold in the U.S. commonly contain very large amounts of trans fats.

  • Vegetable oils can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
