How Does Ketogenic Diet Work?

During ketogenic diet program, only measured low amounts of carbs from green leafy vegetables are consumed; sugar, bread, grains, beans, starches, gluten, processed foods, sweeteners, beverages, and alcoholic drinks are entirely eliminated from the diet.

In this state, by design glucose is in short supply; the liver switches to breaking down the ingested and stored fats as alternative energy source.

This metabolic state is called “beta-oxidization.”
