There’s More to Diet Than Salad!

The fat-burning foods that will help us lose weight and heal

In order to lose weight and heal, we need to stay away from foods which have little or no nutritional value (empty calories) and consume more nutrient rich foods. The more nutrient rich foods we eat, the slimmer we shall get. We won’t feel hungry all the time either.

Foods that are rich in fiber and proteins speed up our metabolism naturally, whilst avoiding carbohydrates and eating foods rich in fat puts our body into the metabolic state of ‘ketosis’ (fat burning).

MyKetoPal’s 180 Food Plan is a micronutriant balanced low carb, high fat (LCHF) nutrition program which is designed to aid us in weight loss, support our effort to heal from chronic diseases, and bring back our body to its natural balance.

Read more here about fat-burning foods.

Below list shows MyKetoPal’s top choice fat-burning foods which 180 Food Plan incorporates. The list also explains in a few words why we should be eating them:

KETO beef grass-fed-fatty1. Organic meats

We burn more calories digesting protein than carbohydrates. All red meats (cow, lamb, pork, game), and chicken and turkey are great sources of healthy protein. We chose to select fatty sections to benefit from the healthy animal fats.

Organic meats do not contain more nutrients in them than industrially grown meats, but it’s what they don’t have in them that makes the difference. We avoid meats containing antibiotics and growth hormones as they can thwart our weight loss efforts. If we can’t find organic, we go with all-natural grass fed meats.

Alert: Sausages and luncheon meats (Bologne, chopped hams) are risky due to the additives they may contain such as nitrates, sulfates, hidden sugars, binders.

KETO Coconut oil2. Coconut

Coconut contains a number medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), which are not stored in the body but are instead broken down and used for energy production. Although coconut is high in calories, it aids in the weight loss process.

If you are curious about where your coconut oil comes from, how it is grown, harvested, etc., you can read this special report on coconut oil which was created for WholeFoods.

KETO Salmon3. Fish

We opt for healthy fatty fish such as tuna and salmon as these increase our metabolic rate and trigger fullness.

Salmon contains omega 3s. It doesn’t rank high in saturated fat, and the omega 3 content trumps any other concerns. We consider having salmon once or twice per week. MyKetoPal’s 180 Food Plan features plenty of delicious ketogenic salmon recipes that provide healthy fat.

KETO green-tea4. Green tea

Green tea comes out the winner on many fronts because it’s not as processed as all other teas, and therefore retains much of its goodness, like antioxidants and phytonutrients that make it a superstar among superfoods.

Most likely you know that green tea is packed with antioxidants, but do you also know that it can help us shed the fat? It’s the catechins! The active ingredient catechin has been proven to speed up our metabolism for up to two hours after drinking. Catechin in the green tea gets our body to switch over to burning more calories, as well as fat. Research has found that dieters who drink green tea lose more weight than dieters who do not. This suggests that catechins may well increase our body’s production of heat or energy from digestion (dietary thermogenesis). Research studies show that five cups of green tea can increase our metabolism by up to 90 calories a day.

KETO Avocados avocado Oil5. Avocado

Even though fast food chains jumped on guacamole trend, eating avocados is great for slimming down. For years avocados were avoided as evil, like everything else that had fat in it. Today we are waking up to the reality that not all fat is created equally and good fats actually help us lose the fat we have stored.

Health benefits of avocados include monosaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) that we use as slow burning calorie-dense energy, do not store as body fat.

An avocado can contain as many as 400 calories, yet on MyKetoPal’s 180 Food Plan, we make sure to eat avocados in measured amounts. We limit our our calorie-controlled daily intake to one-half medium size avocado.

6. Green leafy vegetables

KETO leafy-greensWe opt for leafy greens, such as salad greens, micro greens, kale, Swiss chard, spinach and broccoli that are fiber-rich. These foods are low in calories, have high levels of fiber, and keep us satiated for longer. They work great for weight loss by adding bulk to our stomach without tacking on the calories.

Spinach is often a vegetable left on the plate of children, but adults are coming around to it since it really does contain a lot of good things in it for losing weight and general well-being.

We can eat green leafy vegetables fresh as salad or sauteed with olive oil. Whenever possible we consume organic, because conventional green leaf vegetables pick up a lot of chemicals from the fields.

KETO Cinnamon7. Cinnamon

Don’t underestimate the power of cinnamon, it’s not just for baking anymore. This spice raises our metabolism. Cinnamon helps prevent storage of fat, which helps us to lose access weight.

We get weight loss benefits by simply adding cinnamon to our diet, with teaspoon a day showing positive results. What causes the miracle? It’s the way that cinnamon regulates our blood glucose levels. These play a major part in how we feel throughout the day, how energetic we are, or how sluggish we can get.

Maintaining good blood sugar levels also helps us resist cravings. Just make sure that we’re not counting that cinnamon on “our” cinnamon toast!

KETO food-eggs 28. Eggs

Branched chain amino acid contained in the eggs kick-start our metabolism. The vitamin B-12 in eggs helps to increase our metabolism. Furthermore, eggs contain almost all the vitamins and mineral we need daily, and are a high protein source.

KETO hotpeppers9. Chilis and hot peppers

If you like your food hot, there may be some good news for you. Hot peppers like habaneros, jalapenos, and chipotles help us to lose weight, while also adding a kick to our dishes. They contain capsaicin which provides several benefits that relate to losing weight.

And if you were worried that eating these hot peppers would make you burn a hole in your stomach, recent research shows that they actually help to prevent stomach problems like ulcers by killing the responsible bacteria.

Chili peppers also help limit the appetite. The heat from the chilies aids with themogenetic weight loss as they boost our metabolism for up to 3 hours. Capsaicin that chilies contain is not only good for loosing weight, but the heat also helps clear up our sinuses from inflammation. So, fire away!

KETO heirloom_tomato10. Tomatoes

Is it a fruit? Is it a vegetable? Who cares? All we need to know is that it’s got a ton of good things for our body for the long term, and in the short term it works to help us lose weight and help keep it off. Tomatoes are great fat-fighting foods as they reduce inflammation and water retention in the body and help to regulate metabolism.

Like any superfood, tomatoes bring more to the table than just weight loss. They’re low on the calorie meter, but they help to give us that full feeling, and contain fiber that keeps things moving. The lycopene brings antioxidants that are helpful with a myriad of diseases and conditions.

We make sure to add tomatoes to our shopping cart next time.

KETO Nuts11. Nuts

This is one food that almost every single diet plan in existence suggests we eat. Nuts are one food that unites the vegetarians and the LCHF diet followers. They’re straight from the Earth and a small amount of them as crunchy snack leaves us feeling good for several hours. We get the good fats and flavor up our meals by sprinkling chopped nuts on main dishes or side items.

MyKetoPal’s preferred ketogenic nuts include walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts, pistachios, pecan nuts. These all contain healthy fats, and will reduce cravings. Nuts such as almonds are particularly a great source of protein, which helps to build muscle and keep the metabolism going. With all nuts, we strictly stick to one ounce (size of 24 almonds) a day. On another note, almond butter is also a good fat to have, that can provide a lot of creamy ketogenic goodness.

KETO Spices12. Spices

There’s no need to eat bland and boring food when we’re trying to lose weight and heal our body. Many of seasonings from different cultures have thermogenic properties that boost our metabolism, while making all dishes taste exceptionally superb.

  • Mustard seed gets our metabolism going, and ginger helps with our digestion.
  • Ginseng boosts up our energy, and black pepper helps burn calories.
  • Chili, cumin, onion and garlic powder, and cinnamon are some of the spices that will spike our metabolism.
  • Cayenne pepper is an extremely hot spice. It lowers our glucose levels and “reduces the risk” of excess insulin lurking around and storing ingested fat.
  • Turmeric is another great spice that helps with the break up of fats. Found in some of our Asian recipes, it is one of the highest known sources of the antioxidant beta-carotene, which helps protect our liver from free radical damage.

KETO Buttered Garlic Broccoli13. Broccoli

We’d be remiss if we didn’t include broccoli on. It turns out that our grand parents were right, broccoli is really good for us, and it also help us shed stored fat. Broccoli not only contains high fiber, but also sulforaphane, a phytonutrient.

How does broccoli help us shed stored fat? Broccoli fills us up, but it’s not just a filler. It has tons of nutrients per pound. It is also packed with fiber, and keep us regular.

In MyKetoPal’s 180 Food Plan recipes, we spice it up with olive oil, spices or peppers.

KETO mushrooms14. Mushrooms

Our intake of mushrooms along with other healthy foods yields better results due to their low calories and high vitamin content. We make sure to branch out when it comes to mushrooms, trying the ones that may look a little strange instead of always opting for the button mushrooms sold everywhere. They all have their own unique characteristics, but all share the common bond of helping us to lose weight.

KETO asparagus15. Asparagus

Asparagus has many positive effects on our body, and each play a particular role in helping us lose weight and heal. It assists our body in expelling toxins and other wastes. It helps with digestion and keeps good bacteria in our gut. Among all foods, asparagus belongs in the superfood category; it has lots of vitamins and minerals that help our body all-around.

We also love the way asparagus tastes. It is easy to prepare, and accepts seasonings and spices very well, making a great addition to MyKetoPal’s 180 Food Plan menus.

KETO Olives-and-Olive-Oil16. Olive Oil

The reason olive oil helps us to lose weight is because it can take the place of processed foods like salad dressing and other vegetable oils that are bad fats.

Even if you may chose to change nothing else in your diet or lifestyle, just start using olive oil and you should still benefit by losing weight. Remember, almost any diet that replaces the Standard American Diet is going to be better for us and cause our pounds to drop, and using more olive oil in our life can only help us heal.

KETO organic-cider-vinegars17. Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

The enzymes in apple cider vinegar help our digestive system and have been shown to promote gradual weight loss. The recommended way to take it is adding it to distilled water and drinking it before a meal. It will help our food get digested properly so our body can use the nutrients the food contains.

It also works to suppress the appetite, so if you find that you become ravenous between meals and are looking for a way to calm your urges until the next meal time, this may be a solution for you.

KETO Basket-of-blueberries18. Blueberries

The wonderful thing about blueberries and weight loss is that it’s not just general weight that you lose, but specifically the fat. They may help our body break down fats and sugars. They taste amazing and can flavor up otherwise tame salads.   Have a “berry” nice day.

Let’s Keep It Fresh!

It’s best to use fresh ingredients whenever possible, especially with the super foods listed here. They lose a lot of their antioxidant value and weight loss power the more they’re processed. Keep things as close to nature as possible.

In addition to keeping them in their natural state, opt for organic whenever you can. The absence of pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified ingredients will allow their “inherent goodness” to shine and serve as a counter balance to many chronic health conditions.

All we need to do is to stay away from heavily processed, prepackaged foods that are sold by conventional supermarkets, fast food joints, and restaurant chains across the country. Fill your bag with fresh foods from your local whole foods store or farmer’s market the next time you go shopping.

Start infusing your body with foods that will make you healthy, slim and trim!

KETO farmers-market

Soup it up to absorb all the micronutrients foods offer!

Turning appropriate super foods into a soup is a great way to reap their benefits and make them more edible. Soup is a great weight loss tool, as it helps with digestion. MyKetoPal’s 180 Food Plan features some delicious soups that combine many foods listed here for some real micronutrient-packed weight loss meals.

We can use soup as a starter for a larger meal, or we can make a meal out of it when resting our stomach. Soups are easier to digest since most ingredients are bite-sized or smaller and they have been well cooked.
