Once-weekly injection drug Ozempic for diabetes (or Wegovy for weight loss) ---both Novo Nordisk produced and "FDA approved"-- has been the advertised across the main stream media and social media platforms to have caused countless Hollywood stars to slim down at a rapid pace without any dietary restrictions. The medicine has gained momentum and global popularity thanks to it's "perceived" weight loss benefits. So, what's really going on with these once-weekly injectables???
These drugs are expensive, with Wegovy costing $1,349 a month and Ozempic $892 if they're not covered by insurance!
The Oct. 2023 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that people who take Ozempic (or Wegovy) for weight loss, are at risk of severe stomach problems. The main culprit is the active drug ingredient "semaglutide" distributed under the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy.
Semaglutide is a Glucagon Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. What does that even mean? Simple: An agonist is a chemical that activates a cell receptor to produce a "desired" biological response. Here are the responses which GLP-1 produces:
Apparently, the brain and the neurological system, the heart and cardiovascular system, the liver benefit from GLP-1.
GLP-1 also helps pancreas with insulin activity, thus reduces the glucose levels in the blood. Good thing regarding type II diabetes management.
But, what about obesity management? Let's look at the GI Track, shall we?
Semaglutide works by suppressing appetite, but side effects such as muscle loss, nausea, and diarrhea have been reported, and it's common to regain the weight after stopping treatment.
Obviously, GLP-1 causes the sensation of satiety, causing the person on Ozempic to eat less.
GLP-1 causes gastric emptying. That means instant vomiting and diarrhea as soon as the person consumes any food. That sounds good but is it really a good thing? Not at all. The reason is simple: The body is receiving absolutely NO NUTRITION what so ever. This means, the body is brought into the state of forced anorexia. The body now steals all the fat it has stored to burn as fuel; thus weight loss occurs. However, in order to function at the minimum level, besides fat, the body starts stealing protein from the muscle mass, and minerals from wherever there are deposits across the body. The body is now eating itself. This situation can be corrected to receive nutrition only through gastric bypass intervention. YIKES!
Gastrointestinal peristalsis caused by GLP-1 is the reduction and even stoppage of the automatic wave-like movement of the muscles that line your gastrointestinal tract. That is the paralysis of the stomach which may in worst case scenario means rotting foods in the stomach for several weeks. This is TERRIBLE!
Experts are warning there could be another side effect from the often-unsupervised use of Ozempic: DEATH!!!
